Mormon Widows and Orphans Society
(Chartered since 1984 by the Benevolent Fund For Mormon Widows And Orphans)
Please read: Mormon Widows and Orphans Society IS NOT registered as a "501 entity" under the United States Internal Revenue Code, so your gift IS NOT tax-deductible.
The Society Needs Your Gift!
Think of your gift as a contribution to your grandchildren.
These are remarkable times. It is good to include you as part of the story.
Detailed Description of Payment Methods
The success of MWOS is due to the hard work of thousands of members over almost 25 years. Your gifts make it possible to support volunteers, and pay our few employees to continue assistance to Mormon widows and orphans.
We have been fortunate to appoint a TPA (Third Party Administrator). MARSPEC
Corporation also licenses from us the Society's e-Gift "gifting payments software program" which allows secure gifting via e-mail. Only you can authorize payments using a credit card because all verification comes from your e-mail that you send to us. E-Gift merely sends to you a blank electronic "credit card slip". Only you can fill it out and send it to the Society. This allows the TPA to ensure that the Society does not ever receive your credit card information and it is not stored anywhere on our system.
There are several more ways to make gifts to MWOS.
In summary, we want to make gifting easy in the best way for you, so have tried to give you many choices. The Society can accept checks or money orders in any national currency, wire transfer or electronic funds transfer, and credit cards. If you want to make a gift in a way that's not specified below, please contact us!
PayPal, Google Checkout and Amazon are web sites that accept credit cards for payments. You don't need to set up accounts to make gifts via PayPal or an Amazon Honor Button. Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover are accepted. Google Checkout will ask you to sign up to an account. Because of all three and their fees, any money gifts of under 55 cents won't reach MWOS. Instead, consider letting your small gifts add up to a dollar or more before sending it. The fees charged by PayPal for payments is 2.9% of the transaction plus 30 cents per transaction. (For a $100 payment, this amounts to $3.20 or 3.2%. For $10, the fee is $0.59 or 5.9%). PayPal accepts non-US accounts and funds. We will send a "thank-you" email when your donation is received. Amazon charges slightly less and their service are not as far ranging because of it.
Pay Direct Using A Credit Card or the e-Gift
Program
E-Gift is the system used by MWOS to contact Society members needing to pay an assessment. When a member of the Society dies, it is the fastest and most efficient means of contact and saves the Society over $1 per member instead of postage and statements using the postal system.
The Society has licensed the e-Gift system to its Third Party Administrator, MARSPEC Corporation. MARSPEC as TPA is responsible for the day-to-day business affairs management of the Society and other organizations. There is a $5 collection and remittance charge to use this convenient payment method. The merchant banks which process credit card transactions will also issue fees similar to the ones offered by PayPal.
Your name, mailing address and email address are required, as well as your credit card information. You are sending your personal data to MARSPEC Click >
(also see our Privacy Policy, below). Your credit card information is never sent to MWOS. Send an e-mail to Click >
and in the subject line type "e-Gift to MWOS". You will immediately receive an automatic reply with an electronic credit card slip to fill out. You just have fill it out before you hit to hit "reply" to the our e-mail. Then, and before hitting "send", just make sure all the correct information is still on the fields where you typed it.
On the "subject" part of your e-mail, you can specify a designation for a specific purpose if you are subscribing to the website or membership.
Using PayPal is one more convenient option. Remember that you do not need a PayPal account to use your credit card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted. Your credit card statement will show "MARSPEC" as the payee, but 100% after bank charges will go to MWOS by electronic funds transfer to our bank account. MARSPEC does supply MWOS with your contact information only, the donation amount and email so we are able to acknowledge individual gifts. Also keep in mind that PayPal makes it very difficult to fillout the credit card information. You have to mouse over the words such as "name" and "address" before you can type in their fields. And the expiration date fields are frustrating unless you know how to cut and paste the data. PayPal is trying to annoy you into paying through them but not use them to make a credit card payment. We use them because we need them.
Google Checkout
Google Checkout is another "buy now" button that has low processing charges of 2% plus $0.20 per transaction. If you signup for this free service we don't get anything from Google but you have the option to gift to either the Benevolent Fund or the Society. Google offers a lot of free things if you get a Checkout account, free unlimited email is only one of them Like many services today, you do not dicover everything you can have for free until you join. Gift us $15 and find out for yourself. More for your money is a real understatement here.
Check or Money Order
Always enclose a self-stamped self-addressed envelope (SASE) with first class postage in case your check or money order needs to be returned to you. Incorrectly made out checks and money orders cannot be processed and the SASE is your best way to receive back our thanks and any checks not properly made out, unsigned, or not legible.
Send a check or money order in US funds. Our address is:
- MWOS c/o MARSPEC Corp.
- Fern Crossing Station Box 631
- North Hampton, NH 03862-0631
All checks and money orders should be made payable to :
- "MARSPEC CORP."
- Please 'memo' the check: MWOS
Our bank does not charge any fees for our use of the bank account, or per-check processing fees so 100% of your intended donation amount goes straight to MWOS.
Non-US Funds Check or Money Order
Send a check or money order in non-US funds. This can go to the same address as above. The bank might charges a small fee for processing non-US funds. This fee is difficult to know in advance, but usually seems to be a few dollars and we appreciate it when you allow for this. The exchange rate to US funds is at market value.
Wire Transfer
There is a fixed fee of $25 to $75 to accept a wire transfer to our bank account, which must be in US funds. For medium and large donations, this may be more efficient than some other methods. Email us here Click >
if you would like to set up a wire transfer.
Affiliate Programs
The Society does endorse and partner with a few particular affiliate programs. You find an item to purchase on our site which we do not supply directly. Amazon.com and our General Store as well as PayPal, e-Gift and a few other obvious affiliate badges are evident throughout our site. We know that some affiliates can be awkward and often ask for extensive personal information. But we also know that they are a good fit for some of you who want these companies to keep on sponsoring us. All our affiliates have vetted us and we have vetted them. Just the same, look at Article VIII of the Charter as to our liability. Thank you!
Privacy Policy For Donations
In order to meet IRS tax regulations, MWOS tracks the names, addresses, gift amounts and subscription methods of non-anonymous gifts. We normally send a postal or email "thank you" letter when we receive your gift of $100 or more. There is no tax deduction available from us and MWOS does not maintain any "501 registration" certificate from the IRS. Our membership are not interested in recognition for their helpfulness as a matter of belief.
We do not provide any information about donors to any party outside of MWOS and its employees for any purpose, except as required by law. We will not send subsequent postal or electronic mail or attempt to phone you.
